About

I'm a Data Scientist and Political Theorist with a Master's degree in Data Science and Public Policy (DSPP) and a PhD in Political Science. I have a deep passion for using machine learning, NLP, and large language models to tackle complex societal issues. My research spans education, public opinion, media, immigration, and demographic trends. Currently, I focus on applying large language models to traditional qualitative research questions. I'm also interested in how AI can enhance political engagement and elections. By blending interdisciplinary research, I develop data-driven solutions in politics and policy.

Skills

Projects

Experience

2023-2024

Research Collaborator at Mercatus Center

As a Research Collaborator at the Mercatus Center, George Mason University (July 2023 - September 2024), I led the "Policy Change Index – North Korea" (PCI-NKO) project, analyzing over 80,000 Rodong Sinmun articles to predict policy changes using AI. I developed Python pipelines for large-scale text processing and fine-tuned RoBERTa models, improving classification performance by 20%. Combining deep learning with LLMs, I extracted policy insights and created interactive visualizations to communicate results effectively. I also contributed to open-source code development, enhancing reproducibility in AI-driven policy research.

2023-2024

MDI Scholar / Data Analyst

As an MDI Scholar at the Massive Data Institute, Georgetown University (August 2023 - May 2024), I analyzed the political ideologies of the 117th US Congress House Representatives using advanced NLP techniques, including topic modeling and LLMs. I developed a comprehensive dataset through web scraping and preprocessing with Python, while incorporating data ethics considerations throughout the research process. I presented findings at showcase events, effectively communicating complex data and AI research approaches to diverse audiences.

2022-2022

Research Assistant at Georgetown University

As a Research Assistant at the McCourt School of Public Policy, Georgetown University (February 2023 - May 2023), I collected data for Catholic school enrollment research, gathering tuition information from over 200 school websites and handbooks. I integrated multi-source data, including pre-k and k-8 enrollment from various dioceses, to create a comprehensive analysis dataset. Using Excel and Python, I performed extensive data cleaning and preprocessing to ensure data integrity and consistency.

2022-2022

Research Assistant at the Inequality and Policy Center

As a Research Assistant at the Inequality and Policy Research Center at CGU (January 2022 - April 2022), I processed and analyzed over 5,000 pages of historical records containing New York and New Jersey state legislators' biographies from 1879 to 2019. I developed an advanced Python script integrating OCR techniques with machine learning-based page layout parsing to extract high-quality textual data from scanned PDF documents, addressing the challenges of inconsistent layouts and low-quality scans. I implemented robust data cleaning, preprocessing, and quality assurance procedures to ensure data integrity and reliability.
